Our garden club member, Laura Medbury, participated in the Oak Harbor Garden Club's Flower Show for the first time this year. We are in the Chuckanut District within the State of Washington Garden Club Federation. This is a juried show and her entries were for horticulture specimens. Laura says next year she might try floral design..... Congratulations!! 👏 👏
A Flower Design Show is held each month also; ribbons are awarded! There are three different design types and themes for each month. If the design style stated doesn’t speak to you, try the Designer’s Choice - where you get to choose any design style -- traditional or creative. It’s an opportunity to really use your imagination! It also gives you a chance to think “outside the box”. How do you get started? Talk to Sally Karg, our Design Chairperson, (our very own National Garden Club judge). Come join us and let your imagination soar! With a little practice, enter the Washington State Federation of Garden Clubs (WSFGC) Holiday Show, November 16-17, in Woodland, WA.
Full definitions and rules for design are published in the Handbook for Flower Shows, revised 2007, pages 151‐222. Designing by Types contains pictures of designs, except for armature, and detailed explanations of each design. Look for many of these categories and designs in the spring flower show.
